“Volleyball is a fantastic team sport. On the court, unlike some sports, there is nowhere to hide, you simply must engage to help your team find a way to victory.
On and off the court, it’s the culture of encouragement and acceptance that first lured me in to give it a go, and it’s the adrenalin and excitement of winning the hard fought points that keeps me coming back. Playing Beach Volleyball with mates on the Sunny Coast… Sensational.”
“A sport should be fun yet challenging, a sport should involve communication and teamwork, a sport should be able to be played socially and competitively, a sport should test your limits mentally and physically, a sport could be a career or a hobby and a sport should be played in an amazing location. Beach volleyball is not just a sport though it is a way of life!”
“I LOVE beach volleyball because i get to throw myself around on the sand like a crumbed sausage. I LOVE beach volleyball because i get to be bare footed and listen to the sounds of the ocean. PLUS the peeps, the challenge, the action, the strategy and the mind games!”
I was introduced to beach volleyball in the late ’80s (!!), and I have been well and truly hooked ever since. Once I got used to having sand in all sorts of places that I never thought it would go, I discovered that there is so much to love about this sport – teamwork, strategy, so many skills to master, the challenge of working with the elements, and the amazing tribe of down to earth, lovely people who choose to play the sport. More than 30 years later, and I am still loving it!

“I’ve been doing this volleyball thing for over 33 years. It started off being about mates, then about climbing the mountain to be the best I could be. Along the way I found a family and it is now about sharing the wonderful gifts that this game has to offer – for personal, interpersonal and whole community benefit.”
